How verification works on SMT
SMT reviews businesses, products, documents, facilities and certifications so buyers can trade with more confidence. Verification is carried out by the SMT trust team following defined procedures.
How SMT verification works
1. Submission
A business submits a category — such as its business identity or a product — together with supporting documentation.
2. Review
An SMT reviewer checks the submission against a category checklist. They may request more information before deciding.
3. Outcome
If the review is satisfactory, the category is marked verified and a scoped badge is issued. Status can later change if information changes or expires.
What “SMT Verified” means
SMT Verified indicates that the relevant information and documentation has been reviewed according to SMT's verification procedures.
What it does not mean
Verification does not guarantee product quality, commercial performance, regulatory compliance in every jurisdiction, or successful completion of a transaction.
What SMT verifies
Each category is verified independently and carries its own status and scope.
Business verification
We review a business's identity, registration and representative details against submitted documentation before a business can be marked as SMT Verified.
Product verification
Individual product listings and their specifications are reviewed. A verified business does not automatically mean every product is verified — each product is assessed separately.
Document verification
Submitted documents are reviewed for authenticity, issuing authority and validity dates. Documents themselves are never published — only the verification outcome is shown.
Facility verification
Processing facilities are reviewed against licenses and inspection records where these are provided.
Certification verification
Certificates are checked for authenticity, scope and validity. Expiring and expired certificates are tracked so status stays current.
Traceability
Where supported, catch-to-export chain-of-custody records are available so buyers can follow a product's journey.
Reporting concerns
If you believe a listing, business, document or piece of information is inaccurate or misleading, you can report it. Reports are reviewed by the SMT trust team, and the identity of a reporter is not published.
