What SMT Verified means
SMT Verified indicates that the relevant information and documentation has been reviewed according to SMT's verification procedures.
What it does not mean
Verification does not guarantee product quality, commercial performance, regulatory compliance in every jurisdiction, or successful completion of a transaction.
How verification works
A business submits a category with supporting documentation, an SMT reviewer works through a category checklist and may request more information, and — if satisfactory — the category is marked verified with a scoped badge. Each category is reviewed independently.
Business verification
Confirms a business's identity, registration and representative details against submitted documentation before the business can appear as SMT Verified.
Product verification
Reviews individual product listings and their specifications. Products are verified one by one and independently of the business.
Facility verification
Reviews processing facilities against provided licenses and inspection records.
Certification verification
Checks certificate authenticity, scope and validity, and tracks certificates that are expiring or expired.
Traceability
Where records support it, buyers can follow a product's catch-to-export chain of custody.
Risk & compliance
SMT operates internal risk and compliance review. Internal compliance notes, risk assessments and reviewer details are never shown publicly — only verification outcomes appear on public profiles.
Frequently asked questions
What does the SMT Verified badge mean?
It means the relevant information and documentation for that category has been reviewed according to SMT's verification procedures. It does not guarantee product quality, commercial performance, regulatory compliance in every jurisdiction, or the successful completion of a transaction.
Does a verified business mean all of its products are verified?
No. Business verification and product verification are separate. Each product is reviewed on its own, and a product only shows as SMT Verified when that specific product has been verified.
How is a certificate verified?
SMT reviews the certificate's authenticity, issuing authority, scope and validity dates. Certificates that are close to expiry or expired are tracked so the displayed status stays current.
What happens if information changes after verification?
A material change — for example to ownership, registration or a product's origin — can move an affected category back into review. Verification is not a one-time permanent stamp.
Can a business pay to be verified or verify itself?
No. Verification status is only ever set by the SMT trust team through the internal review process. A business cannot set its own verified status.
What can I do if I think something is wrong?
